MUMBAI: City Congress chief Milind Deora said on Friday the Centre’s proposed model tenancy law will leave lakhs of tenants homeless, especially in Mumbai.
A draft of the law was announced during the budget presentation by finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman. It will be finalised soon, said Sitharaman, adding that the current tenancy laws are “archaic” as they do not address the relationship between the lessor and the lessee fairly. Deora called the law “anti-people” and said this was the third attempt to introduce it.
